How do you choose your next destination?
1. Choose from the bucket list
I think we all have a wishlist with all the locations we dream of seeing someday, a number of countries or cities we want to visit as soon as possible. When you start organizing your next trips, you can start with this list.
But even so, it is not always enough to choose a destination from a list of wishes to set off. Other aspects, such as the weather or the season, must always be taken into account. I don't think anyone wants to go to a seaside resort in the winter, or go skiing in the summer.
If you have no preference for a certain destination, or if you need new ideas, you just have to expand your horizons and research different places that you might end up wanting to visit.
2. Decide what you want to do on vacation
It is important to determine what you expect from a vacation and what exactly you want to do.
- Do you want to go to the sea?
- Do you want to go on a city break?
- Do you want to go on a tour?
- Do you want to go skiing?
- Do you want to relax at a spa?
- Do you want to explore nature?
How you will spend your vacation depends only on you and your wishes.
3. Determine the time allocated to the vacation
When you want to choose a destination, take into account how many days you will be available. For a city break in Europe, 3-4 days or an extended weekend is enough. For a stay at the sea, a week would be enough. But for a more distant trip, such as somewhere in Asia, America or any other more distant destination, you will need more days, giving the fact that you will spend at least 1-2 days on the road. And it's not worth going all over the way to Thailand for just 4 days, right?
4. Find a location compatible with the season in which you want to travel
It is important to take into account the weather or the climate of a destination, if you want to spend your vacation there. Besides the obvious decisions, like going to the beach in the summer and skiing in the winter, take into account other particularities of the locations.
- If you know that you are a person sensitive to the cold, then in winter avoid the places where the weather is not too friendly and go to places with a mild climate, such as southern Europe, or exotic destinations.
- In the summer choose to visit locations where it is cold most of the time, such as the Scandinavian countries.
- Visit European cities in the off-season (April - May, September - October). In most cities in Europe, the weather is suitable for walking during this period, the cities are not as crowded as in the middle of summer, and plane tickets and accommodation are, in general, cheaper than at the peak of the season.
- If you want to visit a more distant country, make sure you don't catch the rainy season there.
5. Check accessible destinations
Consider the list of destinations easily accessible by car or by plane, with a direct flight. Having a destination only a few hours away, you will be much more inclined to visit it, than a more distant destination, which requires more time on the road.
