What you need to know about Singapore
Singapore is a city-state in Southeast Asia, with a population of approximately 6 million inhabitants, a cultural mix of different ethnic groups: Chinese (majority), Indians or Malays.
It is one of the most developed countries, a force on the world market and an example to follow due to the high level of the economy, living, cleanliness in the city or innovation.

I invite you to read in this article all the necessary information to prepare your visit here: what are the internet options and internal applications, how is the local transport, where to stay and what to eat: Singapore – 16 things you need to know about Singapore.
What to do in Singapore
We have prepared for you, in the following, the list of the most popular and well-known tourist attractions in Singapore. To see the map legend below, slide the menu in the upper left.
Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade
We are sure that the image of the famous Marina Bay Sands hotel is the most familiar to you in Singapore.
That is why your adventure in the Asian metropolis will most probably start here, in the central heart of the city, namely on the famous Marina Bay Waterfront promenade.

Let's see what you can find in this area:
1. Marina Bay Sands
Can we say that Marina Bay Sands is the most representative place in the city of Singapore?

With its three towers and its boat-shaped architecture, the Marina Bay Sands hotel is an iconic, unique and representative building for Singapore. It is, therefore, a luxury hotel, a complex that includes, among other things, a luxury shopping center, a casino and top restaurants. The price per night of a room here starts at around 800 euros, and the higher the room is located, the higher the price increases.
If you think it is too expensive to pay a thousand euros to stay at this hotel (don't worry, we felt the same way!), then there is also the option of visiting this building as a simple tourist, through an entrance ticket to the Marina Bay Sands Skypark Observation Deck.
Where to buy and how much is the ticket to Marina Bay Sands Skypark
Part of the upper level of the Marina Bay Sands hotel is open to the general public, based on an entrance ticket.
Visitors can go up to the top floor, where they have a complete panorama and can enjoy the view of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
An entrance ticket costs 22 euros, and can be purchased online here: Marina Bay Sands Skypark Observation Deck.
2. Merlion Statue
Merlion, the iconic statue and symbol of the city of Singapore, is represented by a lion with the body of a fish, and has, moreover, a special significance for the city.
The lion represents the old name of the city – Singapura, which translates to “Lion City” in Malay, and the fish is Singapore’s connection to the sea that surrounds it.

3. Spectra - A Light & Water Show
Every evening, from 8pm and then 9pm, on the promenade in front of the Marina Bay Sands mall, there is a show of lights, music and fountains. The show is exciting and wonderful to watch, so plan your day's itinerary in such a way that you arrive in time for the show to start.
The light and water show is free. And for a better view, find a seat on the upper platform!

4. ArtScience Museum
ArtScience Museum is housed in an interesting lotus-shaped building in the city center and is a museum dedicated to science, displayed in a creative, artistic setting. You will learn about art and technology and play with different lighting effects here.

Near the ArtScience Museum, you will definitely notice a pedestrian bridge with a futuristic, modern design. This is the Helix Bridge, the bridge whose architecture is inspired by the shape of the DNA structure.
And as a little recommendation: from the bridge you can catch some of the most beautiful photos of the entire Marina Bay Sands promenade!
6. Singapore Flyer
At the end of the Helix Bridge you will find the Singapore Ferris Wheel. It is called Singapore Flyer, and it is one of the major tourist attractions of the city.
If you want to have a complete view of the city, the Marina Bay Sands promenade and the Gardens By The Bay, then you cannot miss this wheel.

A ticket for the Singapore Flyer Ferris Wheel costs 28 euros for adults and 17 euros for children and can be purchased online here: Singapore Flyer Ticket.

7. Boat ride in Singapore
A special activity for tourists can be a boat ride on the city's waters. You will have the opportunity to discover Singapore from a different angle and perspective.
You will admire the Merlion Park, the Marina Bay Esplanade or the Parliament from the boat, and you can get on or off at any of its stops in Clarke Quay, Marina Bay or Boat Quay.

A ticket for a boat trip on the Singapore River costs 18 euros and can be purchased directly from the ticket offices, on the waterfront, where the boats depart, or online here: River Cruise by WaterB.
Gardens By The Bay
8. Gardens By the Bay
Gardens By the Bay is one of the most impressive tourist attractions in Singapore, a park that seems to have come from the future, a garden that combines nature, technology and innovative design.
The metal trees, the representative image of the Gardens By the Bay park, are the main reason why this place has become so popular. Gardens By the Bay extends over a generous area, on 100 hectares of land, and is located in the heart of Singapore, right next to the Marina Bay promenade.

The entire park includes several gardens or attractive places for locals and tourists, such as Cloud Forest, Flower Dome, various lakes, picnic areas or promenades. In the following I will mention the most important attractions in Gardens By The Bay:
9. Supertree Grove
Supertree Grove is the name of the tallest metal “tree” in Gardens By The Bay. Visitors have the opportunity to climb to the top level of this metal structure, from where they can admire the entire panorama of Gardens By The Bay from a height, along with the iconic building of the Marina Bay Sands hotel on the horizon.

Where to buy and how much is the ticket to Supertree Observatory?
Tickets for the Supertree Observatory can be found on site, or you can buy them online, to make sure you don't stand in line.
A ticket for just the Supertree Observatory costs 10 euros. But, if you want to visit more attractions in Gardens By the Bay, check out the combined tickets, to get a better price.
We paid 18 euros for the combined Supertree + OCBC Skyway, bought directly on site, at the entrance.
Online, you can find combinations of different tickets, for example a ticket for Cloud Forest + Supertree Observatory costs 23 euros and you can buy it here: Gardens by the Bay Ticket in Singapore.

10. OCBC Skywalk
OCBC Skywalk is a platform located at a height, connecting the metallic trees of Gardens By The Bay.
This activity is absolutely mandatory if you get here, because the landscape seen from above, and the sensation of walking on that walkway among the trees, are dreamy! For us, this was our favorite place in Singapore, we felt like we were in a story, it was absolutely wonderful!
And if you want the experience to be even more unique, then make sure you climb this Skywalk during the evening light shows, which take place here daily, from 19:45 and 20:45.
Warning! This is not an activity recommended for people with a fear of heights!

Where to buy and how much does the ticket to OCBC Skywalk cost
Tickets for the OCBC Skywalk can be found on site, or you can buy them online to make sure you don't have to wait in line.

11. The Garden Rapsody
And because I was saying above about shows, a “must do” in Singapore is to attend the light and music show inside Gardens By The Bay, in the area of the metallic trees.
The show takes place daily, twice every evening, from 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM, and lasts approximately 15 minutes.

For 15 minutes, it seems like everything stops in place, visitors take their place on the ground, directly on the concrete, and admire the wonderful musical show of trees. This whole performance becomes a story, a state of enchantment, magic and energy! The entire representation of the trees that seem to dance to the rhythms of the music is downright enchanting.
The show is free!
12. Cloud Forest
Lush vegetation, a high waterfall and an exotic landscape – this is what awaits you at Cloud Forest, a modern greenhouse with a tropical specific, an important tourist attraction in Gardens By the Bay.
You will be amazed by how well maintained this greenhouse is, how spectacular it is and how many special plants, from different regions of Southeast Asia, you will find. And the central point of the greenhouse is the waterfall shrouded in a mysterious mist, which transports you directly to a tropical forest.
Where to buy and how much does a ticket to Cloud Forest cost
You can find entrance tickets to Cloud Forest directly on site, but I recommend buying them online, in advance.
And if you want to visit more attractions in Gardens By the Bay, look for combined tickets, for lower prices.
We bought the combined ticket Cloud Forest + Flower Dome. It costs 41 euros online and can be purchased directly from here: Gardens By The Bay Ticket in Singapore.
Another combination of tickets can be Cloud Forest + Supertree Observatory or OCBC Skyway, it costs 23 euros / adult and can be purchased from here: Gardens by the Bay Ticket in Singapore.

Flower Dome is a huge and impressive indoor botanical garden.
The greenhouse offers visitors various thematic gardens, specific to different floras from around the world: you will find a Japanese garden, a Mediterranean garden, etc. The place is full of plants that are increasingly more exotic, more colorful and more beautifully scented.

Historic districts
Indeed, Singapore is a modern, super-developed city, dominated by tall skyscrapers.
But the good thing is that you will also find in this metropolis an authentic, traditional side, the so-called historical districts, which reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of the population.
These districts are full of life and color, with beautiful buildings and crowded streets, not at all lacking in identity. I will mention some of the most popular and touristic districts below.
14. Kampong Glam – Cartierul Arab
The Arab Quarter, Kampong Glam. is, we could say, our favorite and a very pleasant surprise for us!
It is absolutely necessary not to miss this district, if you have more than one day at your disposal in Singapore, because the place is truly incredible! We felt for a moment that we had left the normality of Singapore and entered the atmosphere of an Arab market, with its buzz, noise, color and specific agitation.
The main attractions of this neighborhood are:
Sultan Mosque
Sultan Mosque is the oldest Muslim place of worship in Singapore. It is a beautiful mosque with eye-catching architecture, the heart of the Arab Quarter, in a busy square full of restaurants and shops.

Haji Lane
Haji Lane is a narrow, pedestrianised and very popular street in Kampong Glam. It is full of restaurants and shops, and is also a street art exhibition.
15. Chinatown – Chinese Quarter
Another neighborhood that is very popular with tourists, but with a slightly different atmosphere this time, is Chinatown. Chinatown was the main center of commercial activities for the Chinese community, and today it has become a lively and very popular place.

If you want to see a bit of China in any capital city with a large Chinese community, then every tourist knows that Chinatown is the place to go! And Singapore's Chinatown does not disappoint! Some of the attractions in this neighborhood are:
Buddha Tooth Relic Temple
This is an impressive temple dedicated to Buddha, an important place of worship in Chinatown, which houses a sacred relic of the tooth of Buddha.
Pagoda Street
If you get to Chinatown, you definitely won't miss Patong Street, the main street and heart of Chinatown. Many souvenir shops and Asian restaurants will be waiting for you to cross their threshold.

Chinatown Complex Food Centre
If you want to dine in a Michelin restaurant, even in some of the cheapest Michelin-starred restaurants in the world, then you have to go to this hawker center. Hawker is the name of the street food markets in Singapore, very popular and with super affordable food.
And in this hawker center in Chinatown, Chinatown Complex Food Centre, you will find several such food stalls, decorated with Michelin stars:
- Hawker Chan (Chan Hon Meng)
- Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodles
- Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodles
16. Little India – Indian Quarter
Let's not forget the Indian quarter, Little India, the "home" of ethnic Indians, a place that expresses Singapore's Indian heritage at every street corner, through its colorful buildings, through its temples or through its restaurants with Indian specialties.
We stayed here during our trip to Singapore, and we really liked it. It is a lively, safe neighborhood, with many shopping centers and restaurants, including shops open 24/7. Our accommodation was this, lyf Farrer Park Singapore 4*, for which we paid 120 euros/night (September 2024), and which we recommend further, if you are still undecided where to stay. It is one of the cheapest good accommodations that we could choose in Singapore, in a safe neighborhood and close to the metro station.
As points of interest in Little India, don't miss Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, Former House of Tan Teng Niah or Serangoon Road.
Sentosa Island
17. Sentosa Island
Since Singaporean people are pragmatic people and think of everything, they have also built for themselves a location for fun and relaxation, lying on the beach or recreation in an adventure park.
This is Sentosa Island, located a few kilometers from the city center, transformed into an important tourist destination for Singapore, visited by both locals and tourists.

How to get to Sentosa Island
You have the following options to get to Sentosa Island, apart from the well-known taxis or Grab:
Sentosa Express
This is an express train (monorail), the fastest way to get to Sentosa Island. A ticket costs 4 Singapore dollars (about 3 euros), and it starts from VivoCity station (Harbourfront MRT). It stops at 3 stations on the island: Resorts World Station (here you get off for Univeral Studios or SEA Aquarium), Imbiah Station and Beach Station. You can pay for the ticket directly with your card.

Singapore Cable Car
The cable car is the most touristic transportation option.
There are two aerial transportation lines, one to Mount Faber and the second to Sentosa Island, and both start from HarbourFront Station. The Cable Car is, in itself, a tourist attraction, because it offers you, from up there, incredible views of the city and the island.

A cable car pass costs 22 euros and can be purchased online here: Singapore Cable Car Sky Pass.
Transportation on the island is done with Shuttle Buses, and these are free.
What to do on Sentosa Island
Well, a lot of things: you can relax on one of the island's beautifully landscaped beaches, you can visit an adventure or amusement park, you can go to the aquarium, you can ride a gondola or simply enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of this island transformed into a summer resort. I will tell you about all.
18. Sentosa Beaches: Palawan, Siloso, Tanjong
Sentosa is an island, and obviously, beaches will be present too. There are three beaches on Sentosa: Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong. All three are beautifully landscaped, with fine golden sand, surrounded by a promenade full of restaurants and terraces.
The beaches are artificially built, but nothing prevents you from enjoying the beauty of the place. The only disadvantage of this location is the very high heat and humidity! On such a weather, you don't really feel like staying in the sun for a long time.

But even so, the beaches are a good option for relaxation for everyone.
And let's not forget that this is also the southernmost point of Continental Asia! On Palawan beach, after you cross the pedestrian bridge to the islet, you will also see the inscription attesting this fact.

19. Universal Studios
A perfect place for young and old alike, Universal Studios Singapore on Sentosa Island is a theme park with a wide range of attractions and experiences based on famous Universal Studios films, such as “Jurassic Park”, “Transformers” and “Shrek”.
Ideally, you should set aside a full day for this park to fully enjoy everything it has to offer.

To go to Universal Studios, you need to get to the Resorts World Sentosa train/bus station.
Where to buy and how much does the ticket to Universal Studios Singapore cost
The entrance ticket to Universal Studios Singapore costs 55 euros for adults and 43 euros for children. It can be purchased online here: Universal Studios Singapore Ticket.
20. S.E.A Aquarium
S.E.A Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the world, with thousands of species of marine life and fauna. It is also located on Sentosa Island, next to Universal Studios, at Resorts World Sentosa.

Where to buy and how much does the ticket to S.E.A Aquarium cost
The entrance ticket to S.E.A Aquarium can be purchased online, here: S.E.A. Aquarium Ticket Sentosa, Singapore. It costs 30 euros/adult and 23 euros/child.
Other tourist attractions that you can check out on Sentosa Island are: Madame Tussauds Singapore, SkyHelix or the park Adventure Cove Waterpark.

Changi Airport
21. Jewel Changi Airport
Singapore Airport is one of the most famous in the world! Do you know the image of the giant fountain that falls directly into the middle of an airport? Well, it is in Singapore!

The giant fountain is located in the building called Jewel, a mall at the exit/entrance of Terminal 1 of the airport. And the good news? You don't need a plane ticket to get to Jewel Changi Airport, it is located outside the security gates.
Thus, Singapore's international airport is a tourist attraction of its own, and if you have a flight here, it is worth arriving a few hours early, just to enjoy what the airport has to offer: numerous shops and places to eat, and on the top floor of the Jewel mall, a small adventure park: here you can walk on a rope net located at a height, through a maze or on a pedestrian bridge located near the artesian fountain. An entrance ticket starts from a few euros and can be purchased online here: Jewel Changi Airport Attraction Ticket in Singapore.
If you are flying from Singapore on long-haul flights with airlines such as Turkish Airlines or Qatar Airways, you will most likely be departing from Terminal 1 of the airport. And if you are departing from Terminal 1, there are special counters where you can check in your luggage a few hours in advance. And this is perfect if you want to get to the airport faster to take advantage of all the activities at Jewel Changi Airport.
Parks in Singapore
22. Fort Canning Park
Fort Canning Park is one of the historical parks in Singapore, on a hill that has played an important role in the country's national history. It was a royal residence, then a military fort, and today a beautiful recreational area, near the city center.
Fort Canning Park is home to various themed gardens, such as Sang Nila Utama Garden, a garden with Malaysian inspirations, or Raffles Garden, a garden dedicated to the flora and vegetation of Southeast Asia.
Entrance to Fort Canning Park is free.
23. Singapore Botanic Gardens
Singapore is a metropolis full of tall buildings and skyscrapers, but it is also a very green city, with lots of green spaces, parks and gardens.
And the Singapore Botanic Garden is impressive. It is the perfect place to hide from the heat, humidity and hustle and bustle of the city!
Don't miss National Orchid Garden, specialized in orchid cultivation, Rainforest, the humid tropical forest, Ginger Garden, dedicated to ginger plants, or Swan Lake, the beautiful lake surrounded by vegetation, where visitors can take boat rides or walk along the alleys around the lake.
Shopping in Singapore
In a city as developed as Singapore, with a high standard of living, there will of course be no shortage of grand malls, with brand stores and luxury products. But besides malls, there are also certain shopping and entertainment areas in Singapore that are good to know about:
24. Clarke Quay
Clarke Quay is a former commercial center and cargo loading point in the port of Singapore, from the British colonial period.

Over the years, the area has evolved, and the original warehouse buildings have been restored and transformed into shops and restaurants, while still retaining the charm of the old era.
I recommend you not to miss this place, it is vibrant and colorful, perfect for a short shopping session and going out to eat in the city.
25. Orchard Road
Orchard Road is the main shopping avenue in Singapore. It is a street that stretches over 2 kilometers, with a lot of shops, malls and restaurants, with a dynamic and energetic atmosphere.
You will find here from brand stores, with luxury products, such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci or Prada, to affordable products for every budget.
Hawkers
There is a whole culture of street food or hawker centres in Singapore. It is where locals eat, at low prices, and it is one of the activities that you should not miss if you come to Singapore.
You will find hawker centres at every step, but I will leave you below the most famous and touristy hawkers in Singapore:
26. LAU PA SAT
LAU PA SAT – this is the most famous hawker in Singapore, and also the most sought after, being located near the tourist center – the Marina Bay area.
We also ate here, and we tried the dish considered traditional in Singapore, namely chicken rice: boiled chicken breast with rice and ginger sauce. For this dish we paid about 5 euros per portion.
Other hawkers you shouldn't miss if you're in the area are:
- Tiong Bahru Market
- Newton Food Centre
- Chinatown Complex Food Centre – here you'll find most Michelin-starred restaurants
